Life In The Spirit
Life in the Spirit
There is a way of living that is no longer ruled by fear, striving, or condemnation. This week we read Romans 8 and let the Spirit speak.
Some chapters of the Bible feel like they were written for an ordinary Wednesday in the middle of a long week. Romans 8 is one of those chapters. It begins by addressing something almost every believer wrestles with at some point, the weight of condemnation, the sense of falling short, the fear that we are too far gone or too inconsistent for God to be pleased with us. And it answers that fear directly. Not with a pep talk, but with a declaration of who we are now in Christ.
This week we are spending our time in Romans 8. It is a long chapter, rich with promises about the Spirit, about adoption, about hope, and about a love from which nothing can separate us. Take it slowly. You do not need to rush through it in one sitting.
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
Romans 8:1 · NKJVScripture quoted from the New King James Version (NKJV).
No condemnation. Not less condemnation. Not condemnation that you have to manage or earn your way out of over time. None. That word sets the tone for the entire chapter. Everything that follows, the description of life in the Spirit, the promise of being led by God, the assurance of being called His children, all of it flows from this foundation. You are not trying to get out from under judgment. In Christ, you already are.
Romans 8:1-39
Read this chapter slowly over the next several days. You might choose to read a portion each day rather than all at once. Pay attention to the shift from condemnation to life, from fear to adoption, from groaning to glory, and finally to the assurance that nothing can separate you from God's love.
Why it matters: Many believers live somewhere between the truth of who they are in Christ and the daily experience of guilt, anxiety, or distance from God. Romans 8 closes that gap with some of the most direct and comforting language in all of Scripture.
Reflection question: Which part of Romans 8 feels most true to your current season, and which part do you most need to receive as true even if it does not feel that way yet?

Where in your life have you been living under a sense of condemnation that Christ has already removed? What would it look like this week to walk according to the Spirit in that specific area?
Lord, thank You that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Help me to walk this week according to the Spirit and not according to fear or guilt or old patterns. Speak to me through Romans 8 and let it settle deep into how I see myself and how I see You. Amen.
