As Unto The Lord
As Unto The Lord
Whatever you do today, even the small and unnoticed things, can be done as an offering to God rather than just another task to finish.
Saturdays often carry a different kind of to do list. Errands, chores, time with family, maybe a little catching up on the things the week did not leave room for. None of it feels particularly spiritual at first glance. And yet Scripture offers a different lens for looking at the ordinary tasks of an ordinary day, one that can transform how we approach even the smallest things.
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men."
Colossians 3:23 · NKJVScripture quoted from the New King James Version (NKJV).
Whatever you do. That phrase covers a lot of ground. The laundry. The grocery run. The conversation with a family member. The errand for a neighbor. The work project that has nothing to do with church or ministry in any obvious sense. All of it falls under whatever you do. And the instruction is the same regardless of how big or small the task is. Do it heartily, as to the Lord.
As to the Lord changes the posture of a task without necessarily changing the task itself. The same chore done grudgingly or done as an offering looks identical from the outside, but something is different in how it is carried. There is a quiet dignity in approaching even small things this way, a sense that nothing done with that posture is wasted or unseen.
Here are some ordinary ways this might look today:
As you move through today, is there a task, big or small, that you could approach differently in light of this verse?
Lord, thank You for this day and for the ordinary things it holds. Help me to bring You into the small moments, not just the big ones. Whatever I do today, let it be done with care, as an offering to You. Amen.
With love and grace,
