You Shall Be My Witness
You Shall Be My Witnesses
You were not given the Holy Spirit to keep Him quietly to yourself. Today is the day to let what is inside of you overflow outward.
Before Jesus ascended He gave His disciples their assignment. Not a vague one. A specific, expanding, outward-moving commission. You shall be My witnesses. Starting where you are. In your neighborhood. In your city. And reaching further. The model was never for the gospel to stay contained within the walls of the people who believed it. It was always meant to move. Through ordinary lives. Through honest testimonies. Through people like you, living faithfully in an ordinary Sunday.
You do not have to travel to the ends of the earth today to be a witness. You just have to be available to the people already in your life who have not yet heard or seen what God can do.
"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Acts 1:8 · NKJVScripture quoted from the New King James Version (NKJV).
You shall receive power. This is not something you have to manufacture on your own. The Holy Spirit equips you to do what feels too vulnerable or too awkward or too uncertain. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. That is not a small thing. That is the most extraordinary resource available to any human being on earth. And today it is available to you in the ordinary moments of your Sunday.
Being a witness does not require a stage or a sermon. It requires a life that points to something bigger than itself. That is already happening in you.
Start in your Jerusalem. The people closest to you. The ones who already know you and watch how you live. Your witness to them is more powerful than you realize precisely because they know the full story of who you are and they are watching whether your faith is real when things are hard and real when things are good and real on an ordinary Sunday with nothing dramatic happening.
You were not filled with the Holy Spirit to keep it quiet. You were filled to overflow. Today is for the overflow.
Here are some ways to be a witness in your Jerusalem today:
Who in your Jerusalem needs to see your witness this week? Start there.
Lord, thank You for this week. Thank You for the power of Your Spirit that lives in me and makes me capable of being a witness beyond my own ability. Show me today who in my life needs to see You through me. Give me the courage and the words and the willingness to let my life be a testimony to Your goodness. Amen.
With love and grace,
